Pfizer expands it's cancer drug portfolio

US pharmaceutical giant Pfizer has announced it's buying a Californian biotechnology company in a deal valued at just under €11 billion.

Pfizer is one of Ireland's biggest pharmaceutical multinationals and employs 800 people Leeside in its Ringaskiddy and Little Island plants.

It's taking over Medivation, which is best known for developing drugs to tackle cancer.

The deal - which has been approved by the boards of both companies - allows Pfizer to expand its oncology portfolio.
