Plans for a new Cork town are back in the spotlight.

Plans for a new Cork town are back in the spotlight this week as locals prepare to discuss the possibility of lodging an appeal to An Bord Pleánala.
A last-ditch attempt to get all councillors on board to resubmit the application for Monard town was successful.
The initial application shot down in 2013 but since then the council addressed certain issues to make the plan viable including receiving a commitment from the National Roads Authority on the proposed Northern Ring Road and a higher density of houses.
Locals living in the vicinity of Monard are concerned that the housing plans won't fit in with the rural are meanwhile traders in Blackpool are worried that the building of the new town will aggrevate existing flooding problems in the town.
Speaking to RedFM News Ger Buckey of the Irish National Flood Forum says the local authority needs to consider the effect of the new town on the ongoing flood prevention works in Blackpool:
