Plans to build tallest building in Ireland in the City have been approved

The Irish Examiner reports An Bórd Pleanála has granted permission for the €140 million project on the former Port of Cork site.
The 34-storey tower will contain a 240 bed-hotel, leisure centre, bar, restaurant and retail space.
The surrounding buildings will also include a heritage centre and distillery.
Cork City Council gave the project the green light in October, however the Irish Georgian Society and the Cork branch of An Taisce appealed that decision to An Bórd Pleanála.
They, along with a Cobh artist, raised concerns about the visual impact of the tower, as well as how the project would affect the historic buildings on the Custom House site.
However the paper reports the Bórd said the project would bring a number of positive cultural impacts to that part of the city and granted permission for the ambitious plans to proceed.
