Plans unveiled to replace existing Cork/Ringaskiddy motorway

Plans to extend the Port of Cork's deepwater berth have been given a boost after the National Roads Authority revealed its preferred route for a new motorway. The motorway which is expected to cost over €100 million will replace the existing N28 Cork-Ringaskiddy motorway and will allow for the expansion of industrial output in the Ringaskiddy area. It will bypass Ringaskiddy village and link directly with the eastern side of the Port of Cork’s container terminal. The unveiling of the plans are also expected to come as a boost to Cork harbour which is being positioned as Ireland's maritime hub and which now accounts for a large percentage of Ireland's imports and exports. AUDIO: Speaking to RedFM News Cork's Simon Coveney says the future looks bright for Cork harbour which is growing in importance as an international focal point for trade, tourism, leisure, and research.
