Plight Of Those Living In Direct Provision Centres Has Been Highlighted Once Again In Cork

The plight of those living in Direct Provision Centres has been highlighted once again here in Cork.

Residents of Clonakilty Lodge staged a peaceful protest yesterday after claiming that management excluded them from the visit of Minister of State for Equality, Immigration and Integration.

They say they wanted the opportunity to meet with the Minister to voice their concerns over their living conditions and to query the status of their citizenship applications.

The Department of Justice and Equality has confirmed that Minister Stanton did meet and speak with some residents who were present, however this was branded a staged event by those at the demonstration who say they were ignored.
