Pope Francis invited to visit Cobh Cathedral during his visit to Ireland

Pope Francis revealed to the Taoiseach his intentions of visiting Ireland in 2018

The Bishop of Cloyne has extended an invite to Pope Francis to visit Cobh Cathedral on his visit to Ireland in 2018.

Pope Francis confirmed to the Taoiseach last year that he would travel to Ireland in August 2018 and it's expected he'll come under fire about the emerging Mother and Baby homes scandal.

The visit of the Pontiff will also coincide with the return of the Cathedral's iconic Telford Organ which was removed from Cobh in 2015 and sent to Italy for restoration.

Speaking to RedFM News Bishop of Cloyne William Crean says the Pope's visit is something to look forward to, but it's unlikely he will make it to Cork.
