The Port issued the statement following repeated protests by some locals who say the Port is blocking access to the quay, known as the Five Foot Way, and have vowed to step up their campaign to prevent security barriers being put up while cruise liners are berthing. 

Management at the Port of Cork say 2019 will be a record breaking year, with over 200,000 passengers and 80,000 crew arriving in Cork.
