Post-mortem due after fatal Bishopstown fire

The alarm was raised shortly after 6 o'clock yesterday evening by neighbours who saw smoke coming from the house  in Curraheen Drive.

Gardaí have launched an investigation after a woman in her 60s died in a house fire in Bishopstown last evening.

A technical examination of the scene, along with a post-mortem are due to be carried out on her body today.

The fire service confirmed to RedFM News that the alarm was raised shortly after 6 o'clock yesterday evening by neighbours who saw smoke coming from the house  in Curraheen.

Emergency services including three units of the fire brigade and gardaí rushed to scene and removed the woman from the house however she was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later. 

It's understood the woman and her dog were the only occupants of the house at the time. 

Gardaí say the course of their investigation will be determined by the results of a technical and forensic examination which is due to be carried out once the house has been deemed safe.
