Post mortem due on man who died after fatal Kanturk assault
A post mortem is due to take place today on the body of a man who died two weeks after he was assaulted outside a pub in Kanturk.
The services of the state pathologist's office were requested after the man, who was from Banteer, suffered serious head injuries following the assault and later died.
Gardai in Kanturk were alerted following the assault on October the 24th outside a pub, where it's understood the man received a blow to the head from an assailant and fell to to ground.
The 65-year-old sustained serious head injuries and was left unconscious.
Emergency services rushed him to Cork University Hospital where he was put in an induced coma for several days and while it was initially believed he might make a recovery his condition deteriorated last week.
The man passed away at Cork University Hospital yesterday afternoon and Dr Margaret Bolster is due to carry out a post mortem later today.
Garda technical experts carried out a forensic examination of the scene and are currently studying CCTV footage of the incident.
