Probe launched at Cork's newest prison after prisoner lock out
An inmate was locked outside the prison overnight and wasn't missed until a headcount the following day
An investigation has been launched by the Irish Prison Service after an inmate was locked outside of Cork's new prison overnight.
It's understood new control procedures are to be implemented at night in the newly opened state of the art facility in light of the incident which happened on March 2nd when a prisoner got locked into an exercise yard.
The Irish Independent reports that staff only became aware of the incident when doing a head count the following morning.
It's understood the inmate, who has since been granted temporary release, began exercising to fight off the cold conditions.
Despite 300 CCTV cameras the inmate wasn't spotted in the exercise yard.
RedFM News toured the facility at the beginning of the year and Governor Pat Dawson told us that the chances of an inmate escaping are low:
