Progress made on water supply issues in Belgooly

Progress has been made to resolve water supply issues in Belgooly. Local residents have been campaigning for years to have the village connected to the mains supply in Riverstick - as planned in 2009, before the scheme was put on hold because of the economic downturn. Irish Water has now confirmed that significant progress is being made to progress the scheme with engineers appointed to the project and a design scheme already submitted... The design recommends laying a watermain from Riverstick to Belgooly, upgrade works to the existing Riverstick Reservoir and the installation of a booster pump station and booster chlorination. The recommendations have been accepted and it is expected that the project will go to tender in December 2014 with a contractor expected to be appointed late February/early March.
