Proposed merge for Cork city and county councils
The Environment Minister made the announcement this lunchtime in Cork.
Environment Minister Alan Kelly says he will be setting up an implementation group immediately to begin the process of merging Cork City and County Councils.
He made the announcement this lunchtime in the city following the recommendation for an amalgamation from the expert group set up to review the city boundary.
The contentious issue saw 18 former Lord Mayors publicly oppose the amalgamation with developers threatening to leave the city if it is to go ahead.
Speaking to RedFM News however, Minister Kelly says despite differing opinions, it's a proposal he recommends.
