Rainbow club issues plea to Housing Minister

A Mahon based Autism Club for Children is meeting the Housing Minister this lunchtime to raise their plea for help with securing a bigger premises.

The Rainbow Club which caters for 237 children ranging in age from 18 months to 17 years says it cannot cope with the demands being placed on its services.

The City Council has agreed to examine and assist with their request for a bigger premises but has ruled out use of the vacant ABODE building which they say is unsuitable.

The group which operates in Mahon Community Centre has more than 130 parents on a waiting list and hopes to expand its services with the addition of parent training and sibling groups.

Co-Founder of the Rainbow Club Karen O'Mahony says the wheels are in motion but they just need to find a suitable building in the area.
