Rate Of Tuberculosis In Cork Is Three Times Higher Than Other Parts Of Ireland

The rate of tuberculosis in some parts of Cork is three times higher than other parts of the country.

That's according to a study by the Department of Infectious Diseases at Cork University Hospital which found the rate is partly due to different vacination policies.

Researchers say regional differences in the incidence of tuberculosis in Cork and Kerry over the past 20 years is linked to a policy of not vaccinating people in Cork City and north Cork for the disease.

The Irish Examiner reports that neonatal TB vaccinations were stopped in the City and north Cork in 1972 due to low incidence of the disease
