Rent certainty debate rumbles on

A Cork developer and a housing charity have now added their voices to the mix.

The debate about 'rent certainty' rumbles on this week with a Cork developer adding his voice to the mix.

Calls have been made for the introduction of the measure as supply continues to outstrip demand Leeside with rental prices soaring.

Housing charity Threshold has now warned the government that over 1,000 families face becoming homeless by Christmas unless the Government introduces the measure.

Fine Gael has previously rejected the idea of linking rent to inflation and it's being reported today that the coalition have reached a compromise deal on a housing package, which would see landlords having to justify rent hikes by proving they're in line with the market in the area.

Agriculture Minister Cork's Simon Coveney recently told RedFM News rent certainty might ward off developers from offering new properties - which would only aggravate the current housing crisis.
