Report on city and council merger to be launched
A committee appointed to review local government in Cork is expected to recommend the merger.
A committee appointed to review local government in Cork is expected to recommend the merging of City and County councils today.
Environment Minister Alan Kelly will today launch the report, which it's understood does not have the backing of all five members of the Cork Local Government Review Group.
The potential amalgamation has been criticised by Cork City Council who are campaigning to maintain both local authorities.
Two Cork developers have also voiced their opposition to the merger, with one threatening to move business out of the city if the local authorities are combined.
Minister for Defence Simon Coveney was one of those leading calls to set up the review group and speaking to RedFM News he says they have carried out extensive work:
