Residents Express Fears Amid Future Of Cork City's Tank Field Site

Over 100 people attended a protest this morning where the Chief Executive of the City Council was called on to provide an explanation

Fears are mounting among locals living in the vicinity of the Tank Field Site on the northside of the city.

It's after contractors arrived on the site in the early hours of August 7th and began digging up a section of the field to accommodate a sporting pitch. 

Over 100 people attended a protest this morning where the Chief Executive of the City Council was called on to explain how a sporting pitch is being built on a site which has been zoned as a public open area under the Cork City Development Plan 2015-2021.

In a statement issued to RedFM News this evening Cork City Council say the Chief Executive's Office is not aware of any request from Councillors to meet with her on the issue.

The City Council says contractors have gone on to the site in question to progress the re-location of the pitch in advance of the Department of Education beginning its work in September when a new school is being built in the area.
