Rise in the number of women suffering from liver damage

The comments come from a Cork based liver specialist.
Almost 90 deaths per month in Ireland are directly attributed to alcohol.
Figures from Alcohol Action Ireland show that there are almost twice as many deaths attributed to alcohol in Ireland as there are due to all other drugs combined.
A Cork based liver specialist says there has been a rise in the number of women suffering from liver damage.
Consultant Hepatologist Dr. Orla Crosbie from Cork University Hospital made the comments on foot of warnings that women are putting their health at risk by drinking as much as men.
Some of the reasons alcohol has a bigger impact on females is that they tend to be smaller than men and they have more body fat which results in their alcohol levels increasing quicker.
Speaking to RedFM News, Dr. Orla Crosbie says the 'wine' culture among women is also contributing factor to the increase in the number of women consuming alcohol.
