Road Conditions Described As "Exceptionally Bad" Across Cork Due To Storm Ellen
Strong winds and heavy rain forecast for the remainder of the day with a risk of further localised flooding
The advice is to slow down significantly and avoid secondary routes and back roads due to the number of fallen trees and power lines.
Most main routes are clear, however extreme care is still needed due to the possibility of further fallen trees and debris.
Gardaí at Anglesea street say a tree is blocking the road at Ballinboy Bridge in Ballinhassig- that's impacting traffic from Kinsale which is being forced to turn back and divert through Ballyheada.
Elsewhere large sheets of timber have been reported on the M8 in the overtaking lane between Rathcormac and the Toll Bridge, an ESB pole is down in Dungourney at Ballyspillane Cross Roads, another tree is down at Kennys Cross on the Fermoy to Castlelyons Road and on the Mogeely Road in Castlemartyr
The Waterfall Road, Old Blarney Road, Kilumney to Aherla Road, the Passage West to Monkstown Road and the Castlemartyr to Garryvoe Road are all impassible due to fallen trees or powerlines.
Roads in Charleville, Midleton, Cobh, Carrigaline, Crosshaven and towns and villages around Fermoy are also posing a significant danger this morning.
Speaking to RedFM News Director of Consumer Affairs for the AA Conor Faughnan outlines the dangers of secondary roads following Storm Ellen:
