Road Safety Authority appeals to people not to drink and drive on St Patricks Day

The Road Safety Authority is appealing to people not to drink and drive on St Patricks Day tomorrow.

In the last five years, seven people have died on our roads over the St Patrick's Day period, while road fatalities involving alcohol usually peak this month.

Brian Farrell from the RSA says young people and men are more likely to take risks behind the wheel; "The majority of drivers who are being killed and drink driving related incidents are male 92% in fact, 82% or the majority again are under 45 years of age and worryingly enough we're talking about very high levels of alcohol being found in their system, 70% were found to have concentrations of alcohol in their blood, three times greater than the actual drink drive limit."
