Ronan O'Gara joins sporting legends in receiving Freedom of Cork
Ronan O'Gara has become the 4th sports person to ever receive the Freedom of Cork City.
He joins sporting legends Roy Keane and Sonia O'Sullivan who were bestowed with the award in 2005 and Seán Óg Ó hAilpín who received the award in 2011.
The ceremony which got underway at 3 o'clock was live streamed to the world.
The 40-year-old is being honoured in recognition of his legacy to Irish sport which began with Munster Rugby in 1997.
Since then he has become Munster and Ireland's all time top scorer, holding the record for the most points scored in the Heineken Cup championship.
Speaking at the ceremony the City's Chief Executive Ann Doherty outlined why Ronan O'Gara was selected for the honour.
