Row erupts over where the gateway for the Wild Atlantic Way should be located

It's been widely reported that Fáilte Ireland is to launch a new strategy to rebrand and promote Killarney as the "gateway" to the Wild Atlantic Way

The news has prompted local Fianna Fail TD Christopher O'Sullivan to question the move as he believes Kinsale is the obvious choice...

Deputy O'Sullivan says while Killarney is a beautiful town it’s inland and not even on the Atlantic coast.

He says Kinsale is the cuisine capital of Ireland and a world class tourist location along with being easily accessible due to it's proximity to Cork Airport.

Speaking to RedFM News Deputy O'Sullivan says he will be seeking clarity on the matter from the head of Fáilte Ireland along with raising the matter at the joint Oireachtas Committee on Tourism:

"I was contacted by half the hospitality sector in Kinsale, very concerned about this because they do see themselves very much as the gateway to the Wild Atlantic Way so I'm seeking clarity from the head of Fáilte Ireland and from the head of Wild Atlantic Way to see if this is actually the case. And if it is, to reverse it as quick as possible before it goes too far."
