Runway length at Cork Airport may prove stumbling Block for New York route

The airline operating the first transatlantic flights Leeside says a Cork - New York route will hinge on the length of the runway coupled with the Boeing aircraft it will be using for its transatlantic flights.

The CEO of Norweigan Air says that while they're committed to exploring the possibility of a New York service the current calculations show the runway in Cork is too short to for a bOEING 737 MAX aircraft to take off for New York’s Stewart Airport.

However it's hoped that the MAX aircrafts being used will be superior to the prototype and will be able to deliver the New York service. 

Speaking to RedFM News Norweigan CEO, Bjorn Kjos, says that the runway may be too short for the MAX but they'll know more after the summer when the Boston route takes off:
