Rural Areas Of Cork Could Be Left Behind When New Changes To Garda Divisions Are Implemented

The AGSI say isolated areas of the county could be disproportionately hit by the changes.
The comment comes as plans to merge Cork West and Cork North into a "super division" headquartered in Macroom are revealed, despite strong opposition.
Fermoy and Bandon have lost their status as divisional headquarters, however Bandon will continue in its current roll as the planned Garda station in Macroom won't be built for at least three years.
The Garda Representatives Association, which represents rank and file Gardaí, have also condemned plans to reduce the number of Garda Divisions in the country from 28 to 19 as a mistake by an "oblivious" government and Garda management.
Speaking to RedFM News, General Secretary of the Association of Garda Superintendents, Mick Comyns details one of the organisations main concerns:
