Safeguarding Ireland Is Calling For The Domestic Violence Act To Be Amended
It follows a rise in the number of reports of abuse of vulnerable adults in Cork and Kerry.
The number of cases of abuse increased 35% in the last two years.
The group is looking to empower social workers in the nine regionally based HSE safeguarding teams to be able to make court applications for protective orders on behalf of vulnerable adults.
In January a new offence of coercive control was added to the Domestic Violence Act however speaking to RedFM News Safeguarding Ireland's Patricia Rickard Clarke says this is not sufficient and only covers abuse in certain relationships.
