Save Cork City Group Defends Their Costing Of Flood Barrier
The Save Cork City Group have defended their costing of an alternative to the OPW's Flood Relief Scheme.
The group have proposed building a tidal barrier at Little Island at a cost of €135 million euro, despite the Office Of Public Works estimating the cost of the work would be more in the region of €450 million euro.
Engineers at the OPW have stated the costing includes €27 million for maintenance of the barrier, but does not take the cost of site exploration into account.
However, the group say engineers working on their behalf have taken all costs into consideration, and the cost reflects the simple design of the project.
Speaking to RedFM News Save Cork City Spokesperson John Heagarty says the proposal is viable and sustainable:
