Scouting Ireland say they didn't organise special counselling questions for David Barry

Scouting Ireland have denied suggestions that it organised special counselling for convicted child abuser Dave Barry.

The 73 year old, of Firgrove Gardens in Bishopstown, was jailed for five years after he admitted to 28 charges of indecent or sexual assault and one charge of attempted sexual assault.

The Irish Examiner reported during the trial that the court was told Barry had received "special counselling" from Scouting Ireland, however in a statement to the paper, the organisation said that it's employee assistance scheme is accessed anonymously.

Scouting Ireland says the first time they had learned that Barry may have accessed the service was through media reports of his sentencing, and that the comments made in court gave the impression that Scouting Ireland provided the counselling directly- which they say is not true.
