Sinn Féin has been dealt yet another blow in the Cork East constituency.

Late last night members of the Cobh branch announced their resignation from the party with immediate effect after what they described as the  unjust, undemocratic and reprehensible manor in which two of their fellow party members were suspended from the party.

It emerged this week that Cllr Kieran McCarthy and Cllr Melissa Mullane would be suspended from the party following an internal party review, which Sinn Féin would not disclose the results of, however the party has pledged to engage with the membership in the constituency. 

It now means almost 70 member have left the party after the Fermoy branch yesterday resigned over the suspensions.

Speaking on the Neil Prendeville Show yesterday Sinn Fein TD Jonathan O'Brien who chaired the review denied the suspensions had anything to do with the forthcoming general election:
