Sexual Violence Centre Cork Reacts After A Female Bus Driver Was Threatened With Rape

The NBRU says the woman was forced to lock herself in the cab compartment of the bus and call the gardaí

That's Mary Crilly of Sexual Violence Centre Cork who says the word rape is being used too often in a casual manner. 

She made the comments after a female bus driver in Cork on the 220 route to Carrigaline was threatened with rape by a group of youths on Halloween night when she confronted them for not paying the fare. 

The NBRU says the woman was forced to lock herself in the cab compartment of the bus and call the gardaí, and while she was waiting for them to respond they racially abused her and threatened her family.

Speaking to RedFM News Mary Crilly of Sexual Violence Centre Cork says they're encountering too many instances where women are being threatened with rape 'as a joke', and it simply has to stop:
