Simon Coveney To Finalise Bin Charges Plan In Leinster House

Minister Simon Coveney is to bring a final plan to deal with bin charges to the cabinet this morning.

Last night the minister was seeking legal advice from the attorney general as to whether a 12 month price freeze on charges could be brought in.

It's understood the introduction of new pay by weight measures will be deferred for a year.

Minister Coveney is hopeful all waste management companies will agree to the freeze, but said he will introduce legislation to enforce it, if the agreement is being breached.

Speaking on the Neil Prendeville Show on Cork's RedFM Cork's Simon Coveney says he doesn't believe the general public is ready for the new charges just yet:
