Sociology Expert Says Ireland’s Falling Birth Rate Could Have Serious Consequences

New CSO stats show the number of children born in Ireland in 2020 was 25 per cent when lower compared to 2010
The figures also show women are having fewer children, and giving birth later in life.
Waterford IT sociology lecturer Jill O’Mahony says this will have a major impact on society:
"If you want to have a career, if you want to have security within your own life before you have kids, essentially you're waiting until your early 30s. So if women are waiting a little bit longer, our bodies aren't going to be the best place to have numerous children, or more than one or two."
