Some People With Autism Are Waiting Over Two Years For Assessments Due To A Lack Of Resources

That's according to the CEO of As I Am, Ireland's national autism charity

AsIAm say there's always been a long wait for basic early intervention supports.

Adam Harris says that health services in Ireland are under resourced for people with disabilities and World Autism Month is an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the autism community and create more inclusive communities by expanding knowledge, understanding and acceptance

Speaking to RedFM News, Adam Harris says that the wait for resources has always been a problem but has gotten significantly worse during the pandemic.

"So I think one of the things we know is that health services are grossly under resourced when it comes to disability service. We have people waiting over two years for assessments, and indeed we have people waiting well over three years and five years in some instances, to access basic Early Intervention Support, such as speech and language therapy, occupational therapy. That's really been expedited or exacerbated I should say during the pandemic"
