Spike Island Hoping For Third World Travel Award In A Row

Cork's Spike Island is hoping to make it three in a row for Ireland at the World Travel Awards.

The island has been nominated as Europe's leading tourist attraction at the prestigious awards 2017.

Spike Island joins Buckingham Palace, The Eiffel Tower, the Colosseum and the Acropolis in the top ten sites chosen to compete for the European category

Over €6.5 million was spent turning the former Monastery, Fortress and Prison into a visitor attraction last year in a project co-funded by Cork County Council and Failte Ireland.

Spike Island manager John Crotty told RedFM News that the amenity is proving extremely popular
