Step towards solving student accommodation shortage Leeside

It follows an announcement by the Education Minister.

New plans are set to be put in place to tackle the shortage of student accommodation Leeside.

It follows the announcement by Education Minister Jan O'Sullivan that an inter-departmental steering group is being set up to examine proposals set out in a new report.

The report from the Higher Education Authority made a number of recommendations aimed at addressing the demand on student's accommodation including incentives for HEI's to build more on-campus accommodation.

A 30 thousand euro grant is also being awarded to the Union of Students of Ireland to develop their website about the rent-a-room scheme - which both UCC and CIT Students' Unions have been campaigning for in recent months.

Speaking to RedFM News, UCC Students' Union President Aiden Coffey says the report is a step in the right direction.
