Talks continue over new Convention Centre in Cork
It looks like construction works are set to begin in 2016.
Construction work on the long awaited Convention Centre for Cork looks set to begin next year.
Contract talks between the City Council and BAM Contractors are continuing in regard to the drawing down of the €20 million of public money set aside for the project.
A "Funders Agreement" is being drawn up which must be signed by BAM and the Council to ensure that taxpayers monies are safeguarded and that the project is delivered..
It's hoped that this agreement will be signed in the next few months to allow construction work begin next year..
Speaking to RedFM News the City's head of planning Pat Ledwidge says he always expected the bulk of the work on the site would take place in 2016 and early 2017.
