Tanaiste welcomes review of mortgage lending rules suggesting changes may increase the supply of houses 

The Central Bank will carry out a review of the restrictions that limit borrowing to 3.5 times your salary

 

The measures were brought in after the financial crash. 

Tánaiste Leo Varadkar has said he believes the rules have kept house prices down:

"You're correct to say that they are going up, they went up by about four and a half percent in the last year. But it is worth pointing out that notwithstanding that, home values in Ireland are still lower than they were, substantially lower than they were when they peaked 14 years ago"
