Taoiseach Says The Government Will Do All It Can To Save The Bessborough Family Centre From Closure

105 staff could lose their jobs by January if a new location for the centre cannot be secured

Leo Varadkar made the comments a week after the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Mary informed staff that they were withdrawing their involvement in the charity following a restructuring of the organisation.

105 staff could lose their jobs by January if a new location for the centre, which provides supervised access and therapeutic services as well as family support, cannot be secured.

The Taoiseach has ruled out nationalising the former mother and baby home without compensating the religious order and says the government will enter into negotiations aimed at continuing the service.
