Taoiseach to meet Mandate as efforts intensify to resolve the long running Debenhams dispute

The workers have been protesting for over 200 days at this stage in their fight for a fair redundancy package

Previously Micheal Martin says the former staff have found themselves in a very unfair situation and the Government will do all it's can to help them in the aftermath of the closure of the stores in Cork and Dublin

However he explained that the government can't intervene in the liquidation process, while liquidators KPMG say they won't be offering the former employees a further deal.

It's now emerged that the Taoiseach is to meet with Mandate, the union which represents the workers, to discuss the matter and try to reach a resolution

The workers have been protesting for over 200 days at this stage in their fight for a fair redundancy package and have urged people to boycott Debenhams online this Christmas and support local businesses instead

Speaking to RedFM News Debenhams Valerie Conlon says the former workers welcome the forthcoming meeting

"We're hoping that he might be able to set aside some stock for us. The cosmetics alone are worth over 14 million euro in the 11 stores, so that would easily cover our redundancy, so we're hoping at this stage that something like that might be done"
