Taoiseach Welcoming Proposal For Ireland To Get €1 billion From EU's Brexit Fund This Year
Foreign Affairs Minister Simon Coveney says the country is in line to get a quarter of this year's Brexit Adjustment Reserve, which is €4.2 billion.
Micheál Martin says the funding is much-needed by the sectors most affected by Britain leaving the union.
Fianna Fáil MEP Barry Andrews says several areas will benefit, if the allocation's approved.
"On the one hand, I think we're all aware that the fishing industry is going to be significantly impacted. But that'll only be a small proportion of this. There are two other categories. One is for other businesses to adjust their supply chains; to diversify their supply chains, the other one is for customs procedures to be improved."
