Taxi driver attacked in Glounthaune over the weekend

Gardaí are investigating a vicious assault on a taxi driver in the Glounthaune area over the weekend. 58 year old John Constant was assaulted by six passengers in the early hours of Sunday morning as he took a fare from the Grand Parade to Glounthaune. Four were to be dropped off at an estate in Glounthaune - however a member of the group had gotten sick in the taxi so John asked all of the men to get out of his minibus at that stop as he would have to clean it before he could carry on. The six surrounded him and punched him in the eye and nose, knocked the phone from his hands and told him to leave or things would get worse. John left the scene and managed to ring the guards to report the incident and drove to Mercy University Hospital for treatment. Speaking on the Neil Prendeville Show John says he can't drive his cab today as his face is badly marked but he does plan to get back behind the wheel. Click the PLAY button to hear.
