Temperatures are set to dip to lows of minus four degrees tonight
Two weather warnings are to come into effect tonight
A status yellow low temperature and ice alert will begin at 8pm and last until 10 o'clock tomorrow morning.
Meanwhile, a 12 hour status yellow warning for snow and ice will begin at 11pm with Met Eireann warning of treacherous outdoor conditions developing.
Meteorologist Siobhan Ryan says the cold conditions are likely to last through the weekend:
"So temperatures are obviously well below average not not majorly below average it's not a serious cold spell, but at the same time obviously temperatures are coming in at the low single figures everywhere by day, and obviously by night, we're getting dry, cold clear skies out there so temperatures are plummeting under those conditions. So, by virtue of that obviously, we have a cold spell in over Ireland, and it's going to stay with us right up until the end of the week"
