Tensions are rising over Ireland's threat to veto EU trade talks

The threat comes unless Britain provides border guarantees after Brexit. 

The UK is pushing hard for EU leaders to agree for negotiations to move on to the next stage in the New Year, but the EU has said 'sufficient progress' needs to be made on the Irish border issue before that can happen. 

Fianna Fail's Brexit spokesperson Stephen Donnelly says UK negotiators appear surprised to see the EU 27 standing firm.
