The Communications Workers Union Have Refused To Support The Workers' Campaign To Save The Little Island Mail Centre
They are instead backing the closure of the facility
Last month An Post revealed plans to close the centre in March 2020, and with it, the loss of over 200 jobs.
The Cork Mail Centre Action Group, which represents 120 workers at the facility, tabled a motion for the Union's support opposing the closure of the centre at a general meeting at the Metropole Hotel on Saturday.
However this motion was refused, leaving the future of both the Action Group and the Centre itself hanging in the balance.
Speaking to RedFM News, Spokesperson for the Cork Mail Centre Action Group John Aherne says they will regroup and reassess the next step in their campaign:
