Thomas Marten to appeal for temporary release due to coronavirus

An American who killed a Limerick man in the US will today appeal to temporarily get out of jail because of the coronavirus.
Former FBI agent Thomas Martens and his daughter, Molly, were found guilty in 2017 of the second degree murder of Jason Corbett.
They killed him with a brick and a baseball bat, but won an appeal against the conviction and are in prison awaiting a retrial.
Ralph Riegel, from the Irish Independent, says Thomas Martens will today ask judges to release him immediately due to Covid-19.
"Mr Martens has been in special measures because he is a former FBI agent, effectively to protect him from threats from other inmates.
"But he is also 69 years old, and his lawyers will argue that given the virus situation within prisons in the state, he should be entitled to temporary release on bond."
