Three in custody after city centre robbery

Three people remain in custody this morning following a robbery at a filling station in the city last night. The incident happened at around 8.20pm on Leitrim Street. Two masked men made off with a sum of cash after holding up staff at a service station on Leitrim Street. They made their getaway from the scene in a car driven by another man who also had a female passenger. A Garda car was patrolling in the area and stopped the car before arresting three of the occupants. One of the men the care escaped on foot however. Knives, balaclavas and cash were recovered from the car. The three people arrested range in age from their late 20s to mid 40s and are currently being detained at Mayfield and Gurranabraher Garda Station. The scene at the filling station is preserved for technical examination and the car has been seized for examination.
