Three people were winched to safety following a major rescue operation near Myrtleville yesterday evening.

The Coast Guard rescue helicopter, Rescue 117 and Crosshaven RNLI were called to the incident at the base of cliffs between Church Bay and Fennels Bays at 6:20pm where 3 people had been cut off by the tide..

One person was taken to Cork University Hospital as a precaution. 

However, all are said to be in good health.

People over 50 will be able to get a Covid-19 vaccine from their local pharmacist from today.

More than 1,000 pharmacies across the country are joining the vaccination programme.

They'll initially only administer the one-shot Johnson and Johnson, however the Pfizer jab will be made available in the coming weeks.

It comes as people in the 30s are expected to be able to register for a vaccine this week.

The Government will continue to consider possible travel restrictions with Britain amid fears surrounding the Delta variant.

Its said the strain, which first originated in India is making up around 90 percent of new Covid-19 cases in the UK.

Ministers here are considering extending the quarantine period for unvaccinated passengers from Britain.

They currently have to quarantine at home, but can leave after 5 days with a second negative PCR test.

Cork has had the second highest temperature in the country so far this year.

25.2 degrees was recorded at Moore Park yesterday on what was officially the hottest day of the year.

Dublin had the highest temperature with 25.7 degrees recorded in Phoenix Park.
