Tourism And Local Trade Will Suffer If The Fermoy Weir Isn't Repaired As A Matter Of Urgency

That's according to a number of locals in the town who say nothing has been done to fix the problems in the Weir which are preventing salmon from travelling to their spawning ground upstream.
Anglers and the local rowing club are among the latest to voice their fears. It's emerged that the water level is dropping which will further exasperate the situation and could cut off the upstream part of the river near Castlehyde to boats and anglers.
This weekend 40 UK anglers have travelled to Fermoy to take part in a competition however the local angling community says that unless the Fermoy Weir is repaired this type of tourism will be a thing of the past.
Meanwhile calls have been made for by-laws to be introduced to prevent people from fishing salmon which are already under threat due to the deterioration of the Weir.
