Two Kayakers Have Been Rescued Off The West Cork Coast
It happened at around lunchtime this afternoon
A crew aboard the Courtmacsherry All Weather Trent Class RNLI Lifeboat attended the scene off the headland of Dunworley Point on the Seven Heads Coastline shortly after 1pm.
The two Kayakers were blown on to the remote ragged rocky headland of Birds Island off Dunworley, about 7 miles from Clonakilty, and found themselves seeking immediate assistance, as they had to abandon their Canoes.
The Lifeboat, along with the Rescue 115 Coastguard Helicopter and the local Seven Heads Coastguard Unit rescued both men, who had managed to position themselves on some nearby rocks, before climbing uphill.
One man was airlifted to hospital, while the other was taken to shore by the Coastguard unit.
The RNLI reiterated to importance of planning and caution before taking to the water this Bank Holiday weekend.
