Two Men Who Saved A Cork Sailor From Drowning Praised For Their Bravery During Visit To City

Simon Hoffman from Newcastle, Australia and Santiago Alegre from Barcelona jumped into the water to save Johnny Durcan after his dinghy capsized trapping him underneath.

The then 17 year old Crosshaven native was competing in the 29er championships in Los Angeles last August when the incident happened.

The two men who saved him were invited to Ireland by the Irish Sailing association and are to receive an award for their bravery tonight in Dublin.

Speaking to RedFM News, Johnny's father Tom says his family are very grateful to the pair
