UPDATE: 3 year old rescued from the River Lee

A passer by jumped into the water and pulled the little girl to safety

A 3 year old girl is recovering in hospital after she was rescued from the river in Cork city this lunchtime.

The toddler who was walking alongside the river with another adult, slipped and fell down an embankment and into the water, at St Patrick's Quay at around midday

A woman in her 30's, who was passing by, jumped into the water and pulled the young girl to safety.

Both have been taken to  hospital for treatment but it's understood neither suffered any major injuries.

The Cork Fire service has praised the bravery and determination of the woman who rescued the 3 year old
